The
sea was angry that day, my friends... Like an old man trying to send back soup in a
deli.
Those
that did the first race of the Bribie Series might tell you that they are VERY good
swimmers. That may be the case, but the tidal current within the Pumicestone Passage
was PUMPING, and (as they always seem to do) the generous race organisers had
competitors swim with the current. This made for fast swim times, and a few bruised
noggins due to collisions with buoys.
It
was on to the new bike course, which consisted of two technical 10km loops around the burbs
of Bribie, with plenty of sharp turns. Unfortunately, Pete M lost a
bit of time due to a puncture (or was he just catching his breath ?), which he says is the only
reason he didn't claim glory ....
The
run was another test of nerves with all runners having to run up and back along a
narrow footpath. This footpath was obviously not made for 1000 triathletes, and hopefully
the race organisers will come up with a new run course before the next
race.
Croc
member Jim Sturgess knows all about how easily can accidents happen after a bike stack during
the week - which resulted in a broken collar bone and (perhaps more painfully ?!?) a
busted bike. But, he was still there to cheer his fellow Crocs on - including Chris
White who (despite losing plenty of bark in the same stack) managed to have a stellar
race.
Congratulations
to all Crocs who participated, and thanks to all our friends/ family who came along to
cheer.
